Setting Goals For a Healthy Life
Setting goals is a great way to make a positive change in your life. If you want to succeed at reaching your goals you may want to try these simple ideas.
Think about it. Imagine your goal every day. If you want to lose 100 pounds then you need to imagine yourself doing it. Imagine yourself at your goal weight. Imagine all the great and healthy foods you can eat to get there. Imagine yourself exercising and moving more, to increase your calorie burn. Don't just think about it when you set the goal, but keep it foremost in your mind. Your thoughts are one of your most powerful tools in your effort to reach your goal. Using positive affirmations can also condition your brain to better health. Saying things such as, "I am fit, strong and healthy" and "I love the extra energy I get from exercising" in front of the mirror every morning and night will help program your brain and make those things a reality.
Write it down. If you don't write your goal down you are only wishing. If it is written down one time, that is a good start. If you write it down 10 times a day, and doodle it in the margins of your papers it will be reinforced and become a driving force and make reaching your goal easier.
Tell your friends and family about your goal, and they will encourage you in the attainment of it. If you keep it all to yourself, you have no accountability and won't feel compelled to fulfill it. It is easy to think, "I need to exercise every day" but there is a different dynamic when your best friend or family member is asking, "Did you exercise today?"
Give yourself a reward for making progress. If your goal is to lose 20 pounds, celebrate when you lose the first five. It is motivation and encouragement to do more. It is also positive reinforcement for continuing on in your plan of action to making this goal a reality.
Give yourself a break! You don't have to be perfect at reaching your goal. If you are making progress towards it, slip up, but then get right back on track then things are going in the right direction. Contrast that to making progress toward your goal, slipping up and then giving up because you weren't perfect. In the first instance you are right back on track. In the second your goal will never b e attained because you quit. Allowing yourself to be human and make mistakes makes reaching your goal possible. No one can be perfect all the time or keep to their plans of action at all times.
Be patient! Goals take awhile to reach. It isn't going to happen overnight. Setting mini goals on the road to your larger goal will help make it seem more possible. Starting small is a great idea. If you plan to drink more water, you can slowly add it in and stop drinking sodas and juice and over time you will have changed that habit. Same goes with exercise. Start with today. Exercise one time today. Then slowly add days until you are working out the number of days you desire. Setting mini goals is a great way to advance on the dream in a realistic manner and seeing all the successes you have had can be a great motivator.
Use all the tools at your disposal! Join a gym. Join a team. Have a walking buddy. Pre-cook your healthy meals and have them ready to heat and eat. Take a multi-vitamin to be sure you are getting in all the nutrients your body needs. Read motivational literature. Talk to your friends and set up rewards for milestones. Work with a dietician. Get a personal trainer. Take essential oils. Bulk up on protein and add whey supplements to add muscle mass. Drink green tea to boost your metabolism. Get plenty of sleep. Drink plenty of water.
Taking it a step at a time and doing many little things can help you to reach your goal.

A Cancer Cure Diet
A cancer cure diet does exist. At least it does for many sufferers of this terrible scourge.
It's often goes by the name of "raw food diet," or "living food diet." And it works wonders among many who apply the growing body of evidence that a diet consisting of all (or mostly raw foods) can help the body heal itself.
The medical community as a whole still rejects this idea. I've become convinced this rejection has to with reasons such as professional pride, business/profit ties to industries such as the pharmaceutical market, and a "cultural consensus" embedded within the medical community itself.
For example, most doctors immediately prescribe drugs when treating chronic disease. Such treatment is firmly established as protocol within the medical community, not because it's effective, but because this how the practice of medicine has evolved.
For most physicians, prescribing drugs to fight illnesses, including cancer and chronic diseases, is as natural as the air they breathe. This is an incredibly difficult mindset to question or challenge, especially for the sick person who is currently battling illness, hasn't gone to medical school, and is largely unknowledgeable about alternative health approaches.
More individuals are discovering, however, the nutritional approach for defeating disease. Does this mean patients should always shun medical doctors? Of course not. Does the nutritional path "always" work? No, of course not. But nutrition is often a far better route to health than simply filling one's body with toxic drugs in order to simply mask any symptoms of illness ... or kill healthy cells, right along with unwanted cancer cells.
So what does a cancer cure diet look like?
Cancer is a disease that is very much associated with pH level in the body. The less "alkaline" the pH level is the more likely cancerous cell mutations will thrive. But the more a body attains an alkaline pH level, the less likely cancerous cells can survive.
The notion a certain diet can affect alkalinity in the body is dismissed by many doctors. One even went so far as to write an article about this concept on the "Quackwatch" website: "You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. ... Dietary modification cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine." - 1
But one research scientist countered on his website with the following response, "I would suggest [name of doctor] refer to the following books: 1) Understanding Acid-Base, by Benjamin Abelow, M.D., lecturer in Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, and 2) Clinical Physiology of Acid-Base and..., by Burton David Rose, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Theodore W. Post, MD, Deputy editor, Nephrology. It is apparent that [name of doctor] doesn't have an understanding of endogenous acid production, which includes, gastrointestinal acid production, respiratory acid production, cellular degeneration acid production and finally metabolic acid production. His statement that, "you should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine," is a statement of pure ignorance on the subject!" - 2
In my own reading I've discovered many of the natural substances in plant foods (along with their nutritional benefits to the human body) haven't really been discovered yet. This fact, combined with the reality that human physiology is incredibly complex, means there are a great many things physicians and clinical researches do not yet know about the benefits of eating a mostly raw, plant-based diet. So while the massive amounts of clinical data skeptical doctors keep demanding may not yet exist, they should at least admit that time and experience may yet turn the tables of opinion.
The benefits of a plant-based diet in relation to bodily self-healing are hinted at in the experiences of tens (or even hundreds) of thousands all around the world. After switching to a mostly raw, plant-based diet their diseases simply went away. For most of these individuals, it didn't happen right away. But it did happen.
A diet rich in mostly raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and freshly made vegetable juices and green smoothies can bring about pH changes within a body's tissues and bones. This would be one reason why those who turn to such a diet often see cancer disappear.

A New Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIPRA 2009)
The CHIP program has evolved over the years and is another option, via the government, for possible health insurance. However, please note that this government program is not a full blown health insurance plan like you could get through private health insurance companies and thus have limitations and coverage caps, etc. CHIP is a great possible option for those on a lower income or if one cannot get on an individual health insurance plan due to medical underwriting. Below is information on benefits that have been added to the CHIPS program this year.
Shortly after taking office, on February 4, 2009, President Obama signed into law new regulations and extension of benefits (CHIPRA) for an existing children's health insurance program (CHIP).
This act provides health insurance coverage to lower income pregnant women and children who do not qualify for the state assistance program, but who fall within 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL). It is designed to help children in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford private health insurance.
The act was made effective April 1, 2009 and will continue through 2013.
Under this bill more than four million uninsured children will be able to get medical assistance. Increased tobacco taxes will offset the increase in spending which is currently estimated at more than $32 billion over the next four years.
Here are some important highlights of this bill:
- Dental care coverage increases. States must cover dental care under the children's health program. They will also be allowed to provide dental coverage as a supplement to private insurance.
- Legal immigrants qualify for assistance more quickly. Pregnant women and children under 21 are the ones affected. Previously, legal immigrants had to wait five years from the time they entered the United States before they were eligible for medical assistance from Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Now States are able to cover pregnant women and children who are legal immigrants.
- Financial eligibility requirements have been raised. This means more families can be helped. A pregnant woman's financial eligibility is now set at 185% of the Federal Poverty Level; a child under 19 is set at 200% of the FPL. The cap is set at 300%.
- States can choose how they want to implement this increased health coverage. They can expand Medicaid by increasing the maximum family income allowable for children. Or they can expand current health programs by increasing the number of children they will accept into the program or by opening the doors to allow higher-income families to participate. They are also able to establish new programs that comply with federal law. However the States choose to do it, they will receive matching funds from the federal government for the new children enrolled.
